The Optifast program focuses on meal replacements but also incorporates specific foods to ensure a balanced diet, particularly as you progress through the levels of the program:
• Intensive Level: In this phase, Optifast products (shakes, soups, bars, and desserts) replace all three main meals. Yet, you can have unlimited amounts of vegetables like lettuce, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, and cucumbers, and low-calorie beverages, such as water, black coffee, and tea (without sugar or milk).
• Level TWO: In this phase, Optifast products replace only two meals a day. Another healthy meal should include lean protein (chicken, fish, tofu), non-starchy vegetables, and a small portion of healthy fats (olive oil, avocado). You can also have a small piece of fruit or a handful of nuts as a healthy snack.
• Level ONE: You need to replace only one meal a day with an Optifast product. Two other balanced meals should include lean protein, vegetables, healthy fats, and controlled portions of whole grains or starchy vegetables. Healthy snacks such as yogurt, fruit, nuts, or vegetable sticks are also allowed.
• Maintenance Level: At this point, you should take three balanced, calorie-controlled meals containing lean proteins, vegetables, healthy fats, and whole grains. Additionally, incorporate low-calorie, nutritious snacks to maintain a balanced diet.
