Itching and burning between the fingers are the first symptoms of a fungal disease. Following this, the skin begins to peel off, crack, and redden, indicating swelling and inflammation. Lamisil can help relieve these symptoms and prevent the growth of fungus. Check out our range of antifungal products at Pharmacy Direct and take advantage of fast shipping across Australia.
What is Lamisil?
Lamisil is used to treat a variety of fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete's foot, nail fungus, and jock itch. It comes in several forms: cream, gel, tablet, and spray. However, all forms work similarly as they contain the same active ingredient - terbinafine. This synthetic allylamine antifungal compound disrupts the biosynthesis of fungi to eliminate them.
The type of treatment you should use will depend on where the infection is located, and how severe it is:
- The cream is effective for the most fungal skin infections and has an additional moisturising effect due to its thick texture.
- The gel is also used to treat skin irritations. It is quickly absorbed into the skin, leaving no marks on clothes, but it does not moisturise like a cream.
- The spray forms a thin coating on the skin, which remains for 72 hours to produce stronger effects.
- Tablets are only used to treat fingernail or toenail infections.
- Liquid Lamisil Once is prescribed to treat athlete's foot.
At Pharmacy Direct, you can find all these forms to choose the right product for your health needs.
How to use Lamisil?
To use Lamisil cream, gel, or spray correctly, consult your doctor or ask one of our pharmacists for the correct dosage and application time. If you use tablets, take them at the same time every day, with or without food.
If you forget to take a tablet, take it as soon as you remember unless it's almost time to take the next one. If this happens, just skip the missed dose and take your next one as usual - never double the dose to make up for it.
Most fungal infections respond to Lamisil treatment within seven days, but nail infections can take over three months to heal.
Possible side effects of Lamisil products
There are several side effects associated with Lamisil, although not everyone experiences them. In addition, the majority of side effects subside when you stop using or taking the medication.
Using it topically can cause skin irritation, including a rash, peeling or itching skin. Taking tablets is generally associated with less appetite, joint pain, and upset stomach.
In rare cases Lamisil may contribute to serious side effects, including:
- depressed mood,
- sleep problems,
- lack of interest in daily activity,
- feeling anxious or restless,
- unusual bleeding,
- yellowing of the skin or eyes.
If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor immediately.
